General Update

The new café is now open - it is takeaway only for the moment, but we hope to open fully from if the current Covid-19 restrictions are eased. There is disabled parking only in the car park by the café.

There has been a height restriction put on the main car park, maximum height is 2.1 metres.

Wildlife and Flora

The lilies in the pond in Russell Gardens are establishing well and we saw our first lily flowers a couple of weeks ago.

The parks continue to be a haven for wildlife, there have been lots of ducklings this year and the four cygnets are doing well. Continue to look out for the herons, egrets and wagtails when you visit. Please be aware of the wildlife when you visit and ensure dogs are on a lead in the designated areas.

There have been several common spotted-orchids seen in Kearsney Park on the dog walking side. It gets its name from its leaves, which are green with many purple, oval spots.

Volunteering and Friends of Kearsney

As Government restrictions continue to be lifted, we have started the volunteer tasks in the parks, including weeding the grand border. There are always gardening tasks to be undertaken in Kearsney Parks, like continuing weeding the grand border, and maintaining the orchard, as well as the usual litter picking and surveys. If you are interested in joining the group, and would like to be put on our database, please get in touch at kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk.

Photography

There are always great opportunities for taking photos in the park, be it with a camera or your phone.

If you do take any, and you’re pleased with the results, please do send in any photos that you’d be happy to see in the Kearsney Parks calendar to kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk
