Project Update November 2018

Works update

Tree works are taking place in Kearsney Abbey between now and February, to avoid working in bird nesting season. This work includes general park maintenance. Some trees that are damaged or diseased are being removed. There will also be some tree works as part of the Kearsney Parks project to open up views across the park in line with the original landscape design. We are working with an ecologist to make sure that wildlife is protected during this process.

We’ve been collecting seeds from the park to preserve the genetic diversity of some of the older trees and plants. Next year we’re hoping to involve local schools in the project. If you’d like your school to get involved, please email kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk

Do you want to be a River Ranger?

The White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (WCCP) has been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its Our Finest Dour project. This focuses on the River Dour which flows through both Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens. WCCP is looking for people to help them keep an eye on the river. It would involve choosing a particular stretch of the river and noting the wildlife you see, as well as any invasive plants, litter, pollution or anti-social behaviour.

There’ll be free training and you can give as little or as much time as you’d like. If you’re interested, please email riverdour@dover.gov.uk or call 01304 872138.

Big Tree Climb

The Great Big Tree Climbing Company will be coming back to Kearsney Abbey in 2019! Following the last two years of sell-out events, they’ll be back on Saturday 29th June and Saturday 14th September 2019. Under expert instruction, you’ll be able to climb high into the tree canopy. Tickets cost £20 and each session lasts for an hour. The activity is open to adults, and children aged six and over. To book your tickets, please go to www.kearsneyparks.co.uk/events

Kearsney Parks Forum

The next meeting of the Kearsney Parks Forum will take place from 6pm-7.30pm on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at DDC’s main offices in Whitfield. If you would like to come along, please email kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk by Thursday 17th January.
