Project Update January 2020

Works update

Work on the new café extension is nearing completion. Terracing work will start outside the café once the internal works are finished. In the meantime, the mobile café will be on site every day. The mobile café sells hot and cold drinks, ice cream and snacks.

We are also working with two new contractors to make the information materials that will appear in the park, including information panels, wayfinding posts and materials that will appear inside the café.

Tree works

As part of routine maintenance, the Parks and Open Spaces team is carrying out tree works in Kearsney Abbey. This includes the removal of some trees that are suffering from ash dieback. This work is outside the Kearsney Parks project.

Volunteer with Kearsney Parks

Thanks to everyone who popped in to our volunteer drop-in session at the River Dour Centre earlier this month. We’ll be holding another drop-in session there on Tuesday 31 March, 3pm – 7pm. More information is at www.kearsneyparks.co.uk/events. There are all sorts of opportunities such as taking photos, doing surveys and helping with the park maintenance. If you can’t make the session but would like to volunteer, please email kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk

Chalk grassland restoration

If you’d like to get involved in grassland restoration, why not help out on our next Coxhill Mount task? We’re clearing some of the scrub. This is helping to restore the area to chalk grassland, a rare habitat that can support up to 40 species of plants in a square metre! The next task will take place on Thursday 20 February. It’s being led by the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. More information is at www.kearsneyparks.co.uk/events

Friends of Kearsney Parks

Do you love the parks?  Do you want to get more involved? As our team of volunteers is growing, we’re launching a new Kearsney Parks Group!  The first meeting will take place on Tuesday 18 February from 6pm – 7.30pm at the DDC offices in Whitfield. If you’d like to come along, please email kearsney.parks@dover.gov.uk by Friday 14 February.
