Archaeological Dig June 2015

Over the weekend of 5 and 6 June, the Canterbury Archaeological Trust along with the Dover Archaeological Group and Folkestone Archaeological Group carried out a small archaeological dig in the car park of Kearsney Abbey.

The current cafe is all that remains of a large country house that used to be the focal point of Kearsney Abbey and the current parkland formed the private garden for the house. Most of the house was demolished in the 1950s and although we have a few pictures we have not been able to find any plans or details about the inside.

The archaeological dig should help to provide an insight into the internal layout and will help to inform our plans for a new extension to the cafe. Once we have the full report we will let you know more!

If you have any questions about the dig please contact Jon Winder, Kearsney Parks Project Manager, on 01304 872115 or email jon.winder@dover.gov.uk

. Keep-me-posted.
